Study Guide for the Week of January 10, 2021
This Week Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:1-7
A. Welcome: Welcome everyone especially new persons and read out loud the purpose of your group
B. Purpose: Our purpose is to spread the Kingdom of God. We do this by multiplying groups of people who care for each as God's family. We begin by inviting new people to our group and building them to be followers of Jesus. Each person here has the potential to be empowered to start and be the leader of a new group and spread God's kingdom.
C. Worship Time: Spend a few minutes singing a worship song. Here is one you may want to use King of My Heart (or pick your own on YouTube make sure it has the lyrics on the screen)
2. Who did you invite to the group for this week?
F. Opening Question (a simple question to introduce the main theme - called an icebreaker):
G. Read Background Information:
The book of 2 Corinthians is a letter that Paul wrote to a group of followers of Jesus who lived in the city of Corinth in Greece. In those times being a follower of Jesus often resulted in persecution and unfair treatment by others. In chapter one Paul deals with the subject of suffering and trouble in the life of a follower of Jesus. Paul wrote it to encourage and comfort the followers of Jesus so that they would stand firm in difficult times. This chapter is an excellent message for us today as we go through the suffering of the Covid 19 pandemic. The topic is comfort during troubling times.
I. You Find Comfort When You Remember Who You Are - verses 1-2
Key Concept: Never let your circumstances define who you
are
Key Verse: Ephesians 2:19 Consequently, you are no longer
foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also
members of his household,
Community Group Application: Being part of a community
group is essential because that is where you experience being part of God’s
family

Him

so will I comfort you;
and you
will be comforted over Jerusalem.”
Community Group Application: Community Group members
minister best to each other when they listen and direct people to God of all
comfort rather than giving advice
III. You Find Comfort when You Become an Instrument of God’s Comfort to Others - verses 4-7
Key Concept: Comfort and healing comes as we let God use
us and our experiences to comfort others
Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 1:4 who comforts us in all our
troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we
ourselves receive from God.
Community Group Application: Community group members see
the needs of people around them and reach out with God’s comfort
