Study Guide for the Week of  December 20, 2020

This Week Reading: Luke 1:26 -38

Crossroads Community Group Guide:
A. Welcome: Welcome everyone especially new persons and read out loud the purpose of your group
B. Purpose: Our purpose is to spread the Kingdom of God. We do this by multiplying groups of people who care for each as God's family. We begin by inviting new people to our group and building them to be followers of Jesus. Each person here has the potential to be empowered to start and be the leader of a new group and spread God's kingdom.

C. Worship Time: Spend a few minutes singing a worship song. Here is one you may want to use Silent Night   (or pick your own on YouTube make sure it has the lyrics on the screen)

F. Opening Question (a simple question to introduce the main theme - called an icebreaker): 

What does it mean to surrender completely to God?

G. Read Background Information: 
Luke records an extensive history of the facts surrounding the birth of Jesus, the savior of the world. In this scene the angel Gabriel appears to Mary with the news that she will give birth to the messiah or savior. The word angel literally means messenger. Gabriel is a special messenger of God Almighty. He stands in the presence of God Almighty and is used and key points in God's plan to announce events. He appears 4 times in the Bible - Daniel 8;16; Daniel 9:21 and Luke 1;19 and in these verses. Gabriel is most likely the archangel referred to in 1 Thessalonians 4:16. An archangel is a high ranking angel. Mary was probably between 12 - 13 years old since that was the usual time for marriage at that time. She was engaged. In that culture an engagement was binding. If she were found to be pregnant before marriage it would be a scandal and probably be rejected by her husband to be and possibly even stoned to death. The response of Mary in surrendering herself to God's purpose and plan is one of the greatest examples of surrender in the Bible. Mary was human just like us. She was not like Jesus. She lived and died just as we do. Her example however is something we can all seek to follow. 

Verse Outline 

I.      Teacher Number One: The Angel Gabriel

Key Concept: God has a set time for everything

Key verse: Luke 1:19 The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.

Community Group Application: Be ready, stay focused, plant seeds, pray, wait patiently and expectantly the time is coming.

 

II.      Teacher Number Two: The Virgin Mary

Key Concept: God uses humble, teachable, submissive people in His plan

Key verse: 1 Samuel 16:7 The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Community Group Application: A community groups helps everyone find their place of service in God’s plan. 

 

III.     Teacher Number Three: The Most Powerful Bible verse 

Key Concept: With God the answer to How? is YES

Key verse: Isaiah 55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
    It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
    and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Community Group Application: Community group members encourage each other to say yes to God and put themselves in God’s hands 

H. Word: Read Luke 1:26-38 - break it down into smaller portions to read. Read it in portions aloud together several times. (Goal is that everyone understand the Bible story or verses by retelling them in their own words - keep at it until everyone knows the story or verses)
1. What key (important) words do you see in these verses?
2. Tell in your own words what happens in these verses.
3. What are the details?
4. What details can you add to what others in the group have said?

I. Discuss the following general questions together (Goal is to use these general questions to guide a discussion - the leader should not speak more than 30% of the time - let the group discover what God is saying to them).
1. What new thing did you discover in the story or verses that you did not know before?
2. What did you learn about God (Father, Jesus or Holy Spirit) from the story?
3. What do you learn about people from the story?

4. What important lessons for us do you see in this story?

 
J. Commitment - Obedience - Application  (This is the key - have everyone answer this question): 
1. What in specific will you commit to apply in your life from this study? 

K. Prayer Time:                
1. Pray for an empty chair representing new people who you want to join your group. Name names of people specifically.                
2. Pray for the needs of the members of the group. It is best to divide into 2 groups one of male and the other female.
L. For Next time:                
1. Ask each person the name of a person they will invite to the group                                         for next week.

Esta semana Lectura: Lucas 1:26-38 

Guía del Grupo Comunitario de Crossroads:

A. Bienvenido: Bienvenidos a todos, especialmente a las personas nuevas y lea en voz alta el propósito de su grupo

B. Propósito: Nuestro propósito es difundir el Reino de Dios. Hacemos esto multiplicando  grupos de personas que cuidan de cada uno como familia de Dios. Comenzamos invitando  i  a nuevas personas a nuestro grupo y  construyéndolas  para que sean seguidores de Jesús. Cada persona aquí tiene el potencial de ser  empoderada  para comenzar y ser el líder de un nuevo grupo y  difundir el reino de Dios

C. Tiempo de adoración: Pasa unos minutos cantando una canción de adoración. Elegir su propio cancion en YouTube (asegúrese de que tiene la letra en la pantalla)

D. Annucios: Los anuncios miran arriba

E. Revisar
1. ¿Cómo te fue con lo que querías aplicar a partir de la semana pasada?

F. Pregunta de apertura (una pregunta simple para introducir el tema principal - llamado rompehielos):¿Qué significa rendirse completamente a Dios?

G. Información de antecedentes: Lucas registra una extensa historia de los hechos que rodean el nacimiento de Jesús, el salvador del mundo. En esta escena el ángel Gabriel se le aparece a María con la noticia de que dará a luz al mesías o salvador. La palabra ángel significa literalmente mensajero. Gabriel es un mensajero especial de Dios Todopoderoso. Está en la presencia de Dios Todopoderoso y es utilizado y puntos clave en el plan de Dios para anunciar eventos. Aparece 4 veces en la Biblia - Daniel 8;16; Daniel 9:21 y Lucas 1;19 y en esos versículos. Gabriel es probablemente el arcángel mencionado en 1 Tesalonicenses 4:16. Un arcángel es un ángel de alto rango. María tenía probablemente entre 12 - 13 años de edad desde que era el momento habitual para el matrimonio en ese momento. Estaba comprometida. En esa cultura un compromiso era vinculante. Si se la descubriera que estaba embarazada antes del matrimonio sería un escándalo y probablemente sería rechazada por su marido para ser y posiblemente incluso apedreada hasta la muerte. La respuesta de María al entregarse al propósito y plan de Dios es uno de los ejemplos más grandes de rendición en la Biblia. Mary era humana como nosotros. Ella no era como Jesús. Vivió y murió igual que nosotros. Sin embargo, su ejemplo es algo que todos podemos tratar de seguir.

Concepto clave: Dios tiene un tiempo establecido para todo

Versículo clave: Lucas 1:19 El ángel le dijo: "Yo soy Gabriel. Estoy en la presencia de Dios, y he sido enviado a hablar con ustedes y a contarles esta buena noticia.

Aplicación del grupo comunitario: Esté preparado, concéntrese, plante semillas, ore, espere pacientemente y esperando que llegue el momento.

Ⅱ. Maestro Número Dos: La Virgen María

Concepto clave: Dios utiliza a personas humildes, enseñables y sumisas en Su plan

Versículo clave: 1 Samuel 16:7  El Señor no mira las cosas que la gente mira. La gente mira la apariencia exterior, pero el Señor mira el corazón".

Aplicación de grupo comunitario: Un grupo comunitario ayuda a todos a encontrar su lugar de servicio en el plan de Dios.

Ⅲ. Maestro Número Tres: El verso bíblico más poderoso

Concepto clave: Con Dios la respuesta a cómo? es SÍ

Versículo clave: Isaías 55:11 también lo es mi palabra que sale de mi boca: No volverá a mí vacío, sino que logrará lo que deseo y logrará el propósito para el cual lo envié.

Aplicación de grupo comunitario: Los miembros del grupo comunitario tienen el mayor propósito que cualquiera puede tener: multiplicar seguidores de Jesús y grupos.

H. Palabra: Lucas 1:26-38 Léelo en porciones en voz alta varias veces. (La meta es que todos entiendan la historia o los versículos de la Biblia contándolos con sus propias palabras - manténganse en ella hasta que todos conozcan la historia o los versículos)

1. ¿Qué palabras clave (importantes) ves en esos versículos?
2. Diga con sus propias palabras lo que sucede en estos versículos.  
3. ¿Cuáles son los detalles?
4. ¿Qué detalles puede agregar a lo que otros en el grupo han dicho?

I. Discutir las siguientes preguntas generales juntos (El objetivo es utilizar estas preguntas generales para guiar un debate - el líder no debe hablar más del 30% de las veces - deje que el grupo descubra lo que Dios les está diciendo).
1. ¿Qué cosa nueva descubriste en la historia o los versículos que no conocías antes?
2. ¿Qué aprendiste acerca de Dios (Padre, Jesús o Espíritu Santo) de la historia? 
3. ¿Qué aprendes acerca de las personas de la historia?
4. ¿Qué lecciones importantes para nosotros ven en esta historia? 

J. Compromiso - Obediencia - Aplicación (Esta es la clave - que todos respondan a esta pregunta):
1. ¿Qué en concreto se comprometerán a aplicar en su vida de este estudio?

K. Tiempo de oración:
1. Ore por una silla vacía que represente a nuevas personas a las que desea unirse a su    Grupo. Nombres de personas específicamente.
2. Orar por las necesidades de los miembros del grupo. Lo mejor es dividir en 2    uno de los hombres y la otra hembra.

L. Para la próxima vez:
1. Pregunte a cada persona el nombre de una persona a la que invitarán a la grupo para la próxima semana.
