Message for Sunday October 4, 2020

This Week Reading: Acts 2:1-13

Sermon Notes

I.    Theme – To receive God’s power We have to align ourselves to God in three areas:

Gods timing; God’s filling and God’s purpose

I.      I. Alignment Number One: God’s Time and Our Readiness

Key Concept: God has a plan and it is unfolding right on time – you must be ready

Key Verse: Galatians 4:4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

Community Group Application: Jesus is looking for ready people He can develop and use in plan

 

II.  Alignment Number Two: God’s Filling and our Emptiness

Key Concept: We can be filled with the Holy Spirit when we empty   ourselves and have only Jesus on the throne of our hearts and ask God to fill us

Key Verse: Luke 11:13 - How much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him

Community Group Application: Being filled with the Holy Spirit is for everyone not just the leaders

I.      III. Alignment Number Three: God’s Purpose and Our Purpose

Key Concept: When we align our purpose with God’s purpose, we can do extraordinary things in the power of the Holy Spirit

Key Verse: Zecheriah 4:6    ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’
Says the Lord of hosts.

Community Group Application: God desires each of us to reach other people with the message of life in Jesus. We will do that in the power of the Holy Spirit

B. Purpose: Our purpose is to spread the Kingdom of God. We do this by multiplying groups of people who care for each as God's family. We begin by inviting new people to our group and building them to be followers of Jesus. F. Opening Question (a simple question to introduce the main theme - called an icebreaker): 

In what area of your life as a follower of Jesus do you need more power?

G. Read Background Information: 
 The followers of Jesus have been given a promise by Jesus that they would receive power from the Holy Spirit to accomplish the task of building the Kingdom of God throughout the world. Before they receive it they have to wait in Jerusalem. They all gather together in an upper room of a house and join together in praying and seeking God. God desires to fill us with His Spirit but we must desire and hunger for God to be filled with His power. The day of Pentecost in the Israelite religion was a day when all male Jews from all over the world came to Jerusalem to worship. So on that day there were people speaking all different languages in Jerusalem. In God's perfect timing that was the day God poured out His Holy Spirit as we see in Acts chapter 2. In the past God had given his Holy Spirit to particular people for a particular purpose. God had promised in Joel 2:28-32 that He would pour out His Spirit on all people. What we see in Acts chapter 2 is the fulfilment of that prophecy. In fact Peter explains that in Acts 2:16. 

So this event in Acts chapter 2 is the beginning of the Holy Spirit being available to all people everywhere who in faith ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The purpose of being filled with the Holy Spirit is to become a witness for Jesus (Acts 1:8). When it says in verse 4 that they spoke in other tongues - that word is other languages so they spoke in real languages that they had never learned but that the people who had come for other parts of the world understood. As they said in verse 12 - they all heard the followers of Jesus declaring the wonders of God in their own tongues or languages.

H. Word: Read Acts 2:1-13 - break it down into smaller portions to read. Read it in portions aloud together several times. (Goal is that everyone understand the Bible story or verses by retelling them in their own words - keep at it until everyone knows the story or verses)
1. What key (important) words do you see in these verses?
2. Tell in your own words what happens in these verses.
3. What are the details?
4. What details can you add to what others in the group have said?

I. Discuss the following general questions together (Goal is to use these general questions to guide a discussion - the leader should not speak more than 30% of the time - let the group discover what God is saying to them).
1. What new thing did you discover in the story or verses that you did not know before?
2. What did you learn about God (Father, Jesus or Holy Spirit) from the story?
3. What do you learn about people from the story?

4. What important lessons for us do you see in this story?

 
J. Commitment - Obedience - Application  (This is the key - have everyone answer this question): 
1. What in specific will you commit to apply in your life from this study? 

K. Prayer Time:                
1. Pray for an empty chair representing new people who you want to join your group. Name names of people specifically.                
2. Pray for the needs of the members of the group. It is best to divide into 2 groups one of male and the other female.
L. For Next time:                
1. Ask each person the name of a person they will invite to the group                                         for next week.

Esta semana Lectura: Hechos 2:1-13 

Guía del Grupo Comunitario de Crossroads:

A. Bienvenido: Bienvenidos a todos, especialmente a las personas nuevas y lea en voz alta el propósito de su grupo

B. Propósito: Nuestro propósito es difundir el Reino de Dios. Hacemos esto multiplicando  grupos de personas que cuidan de cada uno como familia de Dios. Comenzamos invitando  i  a nuevas personas a nuestro grupo y  construyéndolas  para que sean seguidores de Jesús. Cada persona aquí tiene el potencial de ser  empoderada  para comenzar y ser el líder de un nuevo grupo y  difundir el reino de Dios

C. Tiempo de adoración: Pasa unos minutos cantando una canción de adoración. Elegir su propio cancion en YouTube (asegúrese de que tiene la letra en la pantalla)

¿En qué área de tu vida como seguidor de Jesús necesitas más poder?

G. Información de antecedentes: 

 Los seguidores de Jesús han recibido la promesa de Jesús de que recibirían poder del Espíritu Santo para cumplir la tarea de edificar el Reino de Dios en todo el mundo. Antes de recibirlo tienen que esperar en Jerusalén. Todos se reúnen en un cuarto superior de una casa y se unen para orar y buscar a Dios. Dios desea llenarnos de Su Espíritu, pero debemos desear y tener hambre de que Dios sea lleno de Su poder. El día de Pentecostés en la religión israelita fue un día en que todos los judíos varones de todo el mundo vinieron a Jerusalén para adorar. Así que ese día había gente hablando todos los idiomas diferentes en Jerusalén. En el momento perfecto de Dios que fue el día en que Dios derramó Su Espíritu Santo como vemos en Hechos capítulo 2. En el pasado Dios había dado su Espíritu Santo a personas particulares para un propósito particular. Dios había prometido en Joel 2:28-32 que derramaría Su Espíritu sobre todas las personas. Lo que vemos en Hechos capítulo 2 es el cumplimiento de esa profecía. De hecho, Pedro explica que en Hechos 2:16.

 

Así que este acontecimiento en Hechos capítulo 2 es el comienzo de que el Espíritu Santo esté disponible para todas las personas en todas partes que en la fe piden ser llenas del Espíritu Santo. El propósito de ser lleno del Espíritu Santo es llegar a ser testigo de Jesús (Hechos 1:8). Cuando dice en el versículo 4 que hablaban en otras lenguas - esa palabra es otra lengua por lo que hablaban en lenguas reales que nunca habían aprendido, pero que las personas que habían venido por otras partes del mundo entendieron. Como dijeron en el versículo 12 - todos escucharon a los seguidores de Jesús declarando las maravillas de Dios en sus propias lenguas.

H. Palabra: Hechos 2:1-13 Léelo en porciones en voz alta varias veces. (La meta es que todos entiendan la historia o los versículos de la Biblia contándolos con sus propias palabras - manténganse en ella hasta que todos conozcan la historia o los versículos)

2. Diga con sus propias palabras lo que sucede en estos versículos.  
3. ¿Cuáles son los detalles?
4. ¿Qué detalles puede agregar a lo que otros en el grupo han dicho?

K. Tiempo de oración:
1. Ore por una silla vacía que represente a nuevas personas a las que desea unirse a su    Grupo. Nombres de personas específicamente.
2. Orar por las necesidades de los miembros del grupo. Lo mejor es dividir en 2    uno de los hombres y la otra hembra.

L. Para la próxima vez:
1. Pregunte a cada persona el nombre de una persona a la que invitarán a la grupo para la próxima semana.
